We spent the weekend before last at The Golden Acorn Hotel in Glenrothes, The Kingdom of Fife, which is just around an hour away from us.

This is a Wetherspoon's Hotel and the first one we have stayed in, I was actually quite surprised when I found out because I had never known that Wetherspoon's actually ran hotels, I only knew about the Restaurant/Pubs.

The hotel is connected on to a pub/restaurant and at first when we arrived I was quite worried about noise/disruptions from the bar but I needn't have been as the minute you enter the lift to head to the floors with the rooms on them you cant hear a thing.

I was really pleased with the room, we were in the very last room on the fifth floor and it was warm, cosy, clean and comfy, we were also provided with plenty on the tea/coffee tray, and then we were also given bottled spring and sparkling water as well as some biscuits!.

Another plus for me with this hotel was that we could go straight downstairs in the morning to have breakfast in the bar and the shopping centre was practically right next door with a massive choice of shops, we ended up spending most of the Saturday in there.

Straight across from the restaurant they also have plenty of fast food shops and a newsagents so basically everything you need right in the immediate area.

I sadly wasn't able to grab any more pics of this hotel because my phone gave up on me...

I think I mentioned previously that we (myself and my partner) like to get away for the weekend whenever possible to hotels, well for the past four weekends that's what we have been doing, hence the lack of blog posts recently, so for the first and second weekend we went to The Holiday Inn Express Greenock, it's not our first time visiting this hotel and it's one of the hotel chains we do tend to use a lot, the room rates include breakfast each morning so it works out as really good value for the money, the staff are always cheerful and helpful, the rooms are always cleaned thoroughly, warm and cosy, you also receive plenty of tea/coffee which is replenished each day and that is a must for us as we love our cuppa's lol.

The second weekend we returned to the same place in Greenock and we also booked a room for my in laws too as a mothers day gift, they also enjoy visiting the holiday inn's due to them being allowed to take their small dog with them.

The one in Greenock is particularly good because everything you need is within walking distance, including a fairly decent sized shopping centre, main streets/shops and plenty of places to for dining.

This is some images of the hotel room and the surrounding area.

Has anyone watched the Making A Murderer series on Netflix? I know I'm probably soooo much later than most bringing it up and it was a while ago now that I actually watched it but I just saw some news articles and it made me wonder what others are thinking now, I was actually gobsmacked after watching the first couple of episodes and ended up binge watching the rest because I just needed to keep seeing how it all unfolded.

My overall opinion is that neither Brendan Dassey or Steven Avery should be in prison right now, the whole court case and the investigation beforehand was a complete sham and then adding in the details released to the media before the trial that should never have happened then the entire case should have been thrown out in my opinion.

Regardless of whether you think they are innocent or guilty though, surely EVERYONE must realise that at the very least they deserve a fair trial..

I just hope that the entire truth comes out in the end and we finally see some justice for Teresa Halbach.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12858923669154218261noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3684093474108177972.post-7137847384466597592016-02-25T21:18:00.001+00:002016-02-25T21:18:15.966+00:00What's for dinner?

I think I mentioned before that I love the weekends, namely Saturdays because myself and my partner always go out together and if we aren't away staying in a hotel then we go either shopping, visiting a tourist attraction nearby, we eat out then visit my partners mum and dad.

This weekend I was feeling lousy with a cold (which has now turned into a head cold eurgh!) so wasn't really up for doing much but still never wanted to stay indoors all day so we opted for just going to the Forge Shopping Centre which is only about 20 mins away in the car, the forge also has a great market right next to it that I do enjoy walking around and picking up little bits and bobs (you really should visit if you ever get a chance and haven't already) but I wasn't feeling up to walking around both so we just went to the shopping centre this time round, we picked up some odds and ends (nothing exciting this week) then we went looking for food and found Mc Chans Oriental Express, I opted for a Beef Curry with rice and Chips and my partner wanted the chicken curry, we then had a cuppa to wash it down, the service was great, the woman that served me at the till was very helpful and pleasant and the food was lovely, I will definitely be going back.

So after eating I was looking for a Superdrug to pick up the Freedom Pro Strobe Palette that I had seen the previous week but unfortunately there's none in the Forge, I popped into one in another town on the way back and typically they never had that specific item (the girl said she knew what I was describing but they never had that stand in their store) oh well, just my luck I suppose, here's hoping I can pick it up next week.

This has to be one of the easiest most basic soups ever but it tastes great and it's ready in less than 45 mins!

Ingredients:

2 Cups of red lentils

1/2 of an onion

Vegetable stock or stock cubes (I used 5 Aldi's vegetable quixo cubes)

Instructions:

1. Rinse the lentils until thoroughly cleaned and the water runs clear (I use a large sieve for this)

2. Finely chop the onion.

3. Place both the lentils and onion into a medium sized pot and fill with boiling water.

4. Bring back to boil then simmer for 20/30 minutes until the lentils are cooked.

5. Add your stock or stock cubes and continue simmering for another 10 mins.

6. Remove the pot from the heat and use a hand held blender to blend the soup to your preference.

Serve and enjoy!!

Tip: You can basically ad any other vegetables of your choice to this soup or you could add bacon or ham to make it lentil and bacon/ham soup

So the snow happened overnight on Tuesday and we woke up to a blanket of it yesterday morning, now living in a semi rural Scottish village this isn't exactly a rare happening but we really haven't been getting as much snow or should I say as large amounts of it as we used to and I must admit I'm like a big kid when it comes to snow, I love it well that is until I have to go out in it haha but I do love watching it fall and how beautiful it looks when it's untouched.

This is another staple soup from my childhood, it's the perfect thing for a cold winters day.

We normally serve it with some crusty bread and have it as a main meal, it's also another great soup to have when you are feeling unwell.

Again the amounts and ingredients are not really that important and can easily be changed depending on what you like, what you have in, how many you want to feed, what size of pot you are using etc

You don't have to use any meat to start with either you can use premade stock and just skip the first two steps.

Ingredients:

1 Ham Hock (These can be picked up in most supermarkets and aren't costly)

5 Large Carrots

2 or 3 Onions

1 Leek

1/2 of a Turnip

1/2 Cup of red lentils

Ham or Vegetable Stock Cubes (I used 6 Aldis Vegetable Cubes)

Salt and Pepper (optional)

Instructions:

1. Rinse the Ham Hock and place in a large pot covered with cold water, bring to the boil then leave cooking for roughly 1 hour (until the meat is totally cooked, it will begin to fall off the bone).

You can wash, peel and thinly slice and/or chop 3 of the carrots, the onions, leek and turnip during this time.

Grate the 2 leftover carrots.

2. Remove the cooked hock from the pot and set aside.

3. Add all of the vegetables (apart from the grated carrot) and the stock cubes to the pot and allow to boil for 30/40 minutes. (until the veg is almost cooked)

4. Rinse the half cup of lentils in cold water (I use a sieve for this) until the water runs clear then add them along with the grated carrot to the pot, simmer for around 30 mins, stirring occasional to ensure the lentils don't stick.

5. Add in some of the cooked ham from earlier and cook for another few minutes, season with salt and pepper to taste and then serve.

Enjoy!

Tip: You don't have to use meat in this soup or can use any meat you choose, sometimes instead of using a ham hock I use some boiling beef or some bacon lardons.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "arial" , "tahoma" , "helvetica" , "freesans" , sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 20.79px;">Will you or have you attempted this recipe? what did you think?

I have been worrying about how fine my hair is so when I caught the ads on TV for the L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology Range I was intrugued especially since the prices are so affordable so I thought I need to try this...

The claim from L'Oreal is that specially developed with Filloxane, the shampoo formula together with the conditioner, thickens the look of hair and provides deep cleansing.

Filloxane is a patented technology proven to help thicken the look of hair, with more body and bounce.

Firstly, the scent of both the shampoo and conditioner is extremely nice and fresh, both have a silky consistency that lathers well without need to use a ton of it.

After the first use I blow dryed then styled my hair and noticed just a slight difference in how thick my hair looked, it also looked healthier, felt softer and smelt lovely.

Now after using the two products for just over a month I can honestly say I definitely notice a big difference, my hair looks and feels thicker and fuller.

My one complaint is that after shampooing (before the conditioner) my hair doesn't feel completely clean and i'm thinking that I may need to use a clarifying shampoo every couple of months just for my own sake to know my hair is cleaned properly.

So all in all my personal experience of the two products is that they do actually do what L'Oreal Claims they will and that is to thicken hair giving more volume and bounce.

I do however think that the difference would be much more noticable by adding in the rest of the product range (The Masque, The Thickening Conditioner, The Double Serum) so if I get round to trying those out I will post and updated review.

You can purchase the L'Oreal Elvive Fibrology Shampoo and Conditioner from Superdrug right now for an amazing price of only £1.97 each.

This soup reminds me of my childhood, the best thing ever was getting home from school on a cold miserable day, opening the front door to the smell of this soup bubbling away on the cooker.

We normally serve it with some crusty bread and have it as a main meal, it's also a great soup to have when you are feeling unwell.

The amounts are not really that important in this recipe they can easily be changed depending on how many you want to feed, what size of pot you are using etc

You don't have to use any chicken to start with either you can use premade chicken stock and just skip the first two steps.

Ingredients:

1 Whole Chicken or 4 Chicken Legs/Quarters (I use a pack of 4 legs from Morissons and they cost £2.34)

3 Large Carrots

2 or 3 Onions

1/2 Cup of Long Grain Rice

Chicken Stock Cubes (I used 5 Knorr cubes because my pot is massive)

Salt and Pepper (optional)

I call this recipe 'Cheat' balls because it uses store bought fresh meatballs rather than making them from scratch but it's a tasty, fast and filling meal and is really simple to make.

Ingredients:

Store bought fresh meatballs (I use a pack of twelve from Morissons and they cost £1.99)
1 Tin of Chopped Tomato's
2 Onions
2 Oxo Cubes
Italian Herbs
Tomato Puree
Water
1/2 Teaspoon of Sugar
Salt and Pepper (optional)

Instructions:

1. Brown meatballs on a medium heat using a non stick saucepan.

2. Add thinly sliced onions to the same saucepan and gently stir for a minute or so.

3. Pour in the tin of chopped tomatoes then fill half of the can with cold water and add that too, add a generous squirt of tomato puree and then crumble in the 2 Oxo cubes and a pinch of the Italian herbs.

4. Simmer for 30 minutes.

5. Stir in a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and continue simmering for another 10 minutes.

Add some salt and pepper (optional) and serve on top of spaghetti, pasta shells or anything else of your choice.

Enjoy! :)

Tip: A great way to bulk this recipe out a bit without adding more meatballs is to grate 1 or 2 carrots into it, I have also added garlic and mushrooms in the past and added some grated cheese on top.

So I thought what perfect way to start off my blog than by writing about something I truly love, and that is.......Coconut Oil!

I love coconuts, I love coconut products but what I'm writing about here is something that is actually an edible food product and what I class as a multi use beauty product and that is coconut oil.

You can purchase coconut oil from health food shops like Holland & Barrat and there is also tons of different brands. I have seen some people rave about a brand called 'Nutiva' but I personally haven't tried that so can't really comment on it, I buy mine online and always use the same brand which is 'Biona - Organic Virgin Coconut Oil' and for the 400g jar it normally cost around 6/8 pounds, now that may seem quite expensive for something that isn't even lets say a genuine beauty product but I have been using this for more than 3 years now and I believe that it's worth every penny you spend on it and that 400g jar will probably last you a good few months too.

Coconut oil comes in a jar in a solid state and stays that way in room temperature unless you live somewhere that has very hot weather, when you scoop some out of the jar it will slowly begin to melt in your hands.

So what do I use this holy grail product for? lets see...

Moisturising - You can use Coconut oil as a safe and natural skin moisturiser either as a full body moisturiser or just on certain parts, it leaves your skin incredibly soft and hydrated not to mention smelling amazing. I don't apply as much to my face as the rest of my body though as I feel it leaves me looking too oily so that would be something to watch out for if you are prone to oily skin.

What I normally do is put around a spoonful of oil into a small container and then place it in a sink of hot water so that the oil melts whilst I take my shower, I then slightly pat myself dry and apply the now liquid oil all over my body giving it a few minutes to soak into the skin.

Hair Treatment - I starting using coconut oil as a hair treatment because my hair had become dry and damaged over the years due to heat style's and dyes etc, My hair is in a much better condition now (thanks to the C/O in my opinion) but I still use coconut oil as a deep conditioning treatment roughly one a fortnight to keep my hair looking soft and shiny.

To use as a deep conditioner/mask for your hair melt the oil in the same way I described above and then massage into your hair with your fingertips, if you have oily hair then it would probably be best to keep clear of your scalp and roots and instead concentrate on the ends of your hair. After applying the oil let it sit in your hair for 20+ minutes, I normally use a shower cap and leave the oil in for an hour or more but this is up to you, after the wait time shampoo your hair twice making sure all trace of the oil is gone and then condition and style as normal afterwards.

Hair Smoother/Defrizzer - Coconut Oil can also be used to tame and smooth frizzy hair.

Melt the tiniest (you don't need a lot at all here) amount of oil in the palm of your hand, and then apply with your fingers to wet, freshly washed hair before styling to help combat frizz, you can also use a tiny bit of oil to smooth down flyaways on already styled hair.

Lip Balm - I rarely get dry/cracked lips but I find applying a small amount of coconut oil as a lip balm during winter helps to keep my lips very smooth.

Nails/Cuticle Treatment - I keep my nails and cuticles healthy by massaging them with coconut oil (I do this with the same oil as I'm applying as moisturiser when I have just showered).

There is so much more things you can use this oil for, that's why I refer to it as my holy grail product :) you can find out lots more information and many more uses for coconut oil by researching the Internet, I only posted the few above that I have actually used it for myself.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12858923669154218261noreply@blogger.com0
